What’s Your Five-A-Day?

Britt Bravo tagged me in a meme called “five-a-day” which was started to encourage mental wellbeing.

Here are my top five things to do every day (or every week) to stay mentally healthy:

  1. Yoga. Yoga is an amazing stress reliever and helps to clear my mind, too.  Can’t beat yoga bliss from Sean’s class at Namaste Yoga and Laura’s class at Monkey Yoga.  Or simply do what Larry Schultz from my It’s Yoga teacher training calls the “minimum daily requirement” – five Sun Salutation A’s and five Sun Salutation B’s (which fits nicely with the “five-a-day” theme!).
  2. Getting up without an alarm clock. This has been one of the biggest benefit of working for myself!  I feel so much better mentally and physically now that I wake up according to my own rhythms.  On those rare occasions when I do have to get up early, I use my BioBrite SunRise Clock.
  3. Surrounding myself with beauty. One of my core value strings is Beauty / Creativity / Creating Beauty / Style / Inspiration / Self Expression / Uniqueness / Emotions.  I feel so much better when I take in the beauty that’s all around me – whether that be admiring nature while I’m walking my dog, reading a touching story, appreciating inspiring artwork or creating art of my own.
  4. Reflecting on what I am grateful for. This always helps me put things in perspective.  I usually include something I’m grateful for when I journal in the morning.
  5. ReadingLearning and personal growth are also core values of mine.  So, I’m always reading a self-help and/or business book and something inspirational and creative.

  5. YOU!

Now off to yoga class!  Namaste.

  2. Ooh, this is an awesome one. Your 5 things are so delicious I feel like I just want to hang out and do those. Hmm… I’m going to play and come up with my 5. Thanks for tagging me!

  3. Thank you for tagging me. I LOVE this one. I traditionally do not participate in memes…there are just way too many of them…but you have pulled me out of the closet! Now, off to the PH blog to write out my 5 a day!

  4. Aww! I’ve claiming #5 YOU! 🙂

My Top Five Mentally Healthy Practices are…

    1. Meditation- I’m still in the beginner phase (My mentor claims we’ll be beginners for years and years!) but I can feel the start of a calm breeze. It reminds me to breathe and to quiet the chatter and to stop over-analyzing everything.
    2. Staying Present to my Purpose- As a newly minted entrepreneur, everyday is filled with little fears. When I remind myself why I am I have taken this leap (to celebrate life authentically and inspire others to do the same) it helps ground me. Not that the terror goes away, but it’s easier to deal with!
    3. Laughing- Ooooh the power of laughter! It can diffuse a tense situation, surprise a stranger, or lighten the load of a serious task. I’m an awful joke teller, but I love kindhearted wisecracks and just general goofiness.
    4. Nature- I honestly believe there is nothing a spectacular view can’t solve. When I really need to get “outside my own head”- I take it outdoors and up. Hitting any time of summit is perfect! And once I reach the top, I breathe. And that’s about it! View + Deep Breathing always helps my clarity.
    5. Expressing Love- Hugs, gratitude, phone calls home– I need it all. As a highly affectionate person, nothing can beat a huge bear hug when I need a lift. Must find one now, in fact!

Thanks Jennifer for sharing such an inspiring post. I loved hearing about how you keep it all together!

    Peace,
    Molly
